Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The National Foreign Language Center (NFLC) at University of Maryland is seeking an Assistant Director of the Network Administration (NetAdmin) functional unit within the NFLC. NetAdmin is responsible for NFLC’s network infrastructure, services and end-user support. The Assistant Director of NetAdmin is the head of this unit and reports directly the NFLC’s Director of Administration. Currently, two network engineers report to the head of this unit. Periodically, UM students support the IT help desk under this unit. This position will direct the daily operations of the unit through defining IT policies and procedures, overseeing the administration of critical systems, managing direct reports, training staff, researching technologies, envisioning the direction of NFLC’s IT infrastructure, and translating that vision into IT budgets.

Minimum Qualifications:
• 8 years building and administering Windows servers, MS Exchange, and SharePoint
• 5 years experience building and administering Unix-based operating systems
• 5 years experience as the head network administrator supervising at least 1 network engineer on a network of at least 50 client machines
• 2 years experience with VMWare ESX, i.e. building and managing virtual servers

• Excellent ability to manage several mini-projects simultaneously; i.e. Excellent time management skills, and the ability to delegate and coordinate tasking
• Excellent knowledge of the best practices in network administration
• Excellent ability to research and evaluate the latest trends and technologies in IT infrastructure
• Excellent ability to analyze and communicate the costs and benefits of adopting new technologies
• Excellent knowledge of MS Exchange 2007, SharePoint 3.0, and VMWare ESX 3.5, Windows Server 2003, OSX or Unix
